About Psilocybe caerulescens

Psilocybe caerulescens is also known as the “landslide mushroom” or “derrumbe,” which means “collapse” in Spanish. This is completely due to their preference for growing on disturbed, plant-free land near rivers, streams, and ravines. This, paired with its proclivity for growing in sunny environments, has made wild cultivation popular for ages, and continues to do so now.

Psilocybe Caerulescens Habitat
psilocybe caerulescens

One of the uncommon magic mushrooms is Psilocybe caerulescens. From June through October, it can be seen growing gregariously or alone on disturbed ground that is free of herbs. Muddy soils with indirect light are desirable. Psilocybe caerulescens is more likely to be found in the central parts of Mexico, Venezuela, and Brazil.

Psilocybe Caerulescens Effects
If you are new to magic mushrooms, this variety is worth a try. Many users think its effectiveness is slightly weaker than the more popular Psilocybe cubensis, but it still gives you a full range of magic mushroom experiences.

Be prepared before taking Psilocybe caerulescens. Recognizing that anything can happen and opening up to all possibilities will make you feel more comfortable when you start traveling. Set the conditions for yourself. If you experience a bad trip, then the whole experience is only temporary, helping your sense of helplessness to fade.

After preparing, all you have to do is to eat the mushroom. Anything less than 10g of fresh Psilocybe caerulescens is considered a light dose. A normal dose would be between 10-15g and anything higher than 15g is considered a strong dosage of the said magic mushroom. Most people don’t find the taste of P. caerulescens appealing and eating them would require you to power through. It’s earthy, and chewy, so it’s not uncommon for some folks to put the mushrooms on top of pizza or another food to make it more appetizing.

After the queasiness and slight discomfort from the taste subsides, you will start noticing the effects of Psilocybe caerulescens in 30 minutes to an hour. These include subtle changes in vision. Colors will become more vibrant. You will also start feeling more elated and giggly.

When the trip finally comes, you’ll have to hold on tight and just trust in wherever the mushrooms will take you.

Because Psilocybe caerulescens isn’t as strong as other magic mushroom species, you will have more control during your trip. You will be able to navigate your mindset. When this happens, it’s highly recommended to explore yourself and consider looking at your relationships, problems, goals, and principles. Doing so under the effect of magic mushrooms will give you a new perspective of such.

As your hallucinations become more intense, expect your sense of time to be completely distorted. You will stare at a flower for an hour without even noticing. The effects of Psilocybe caerulescens tend to plateau for 3-6 hours.

When the effects start to wear off, you feel more mellow and at peace. This is when you become re-oriented with the world, when you start remembering words which seemed so elusive for hours. This gives you a sense of relief.

After the trip, people have been known to maintain a positive mindset that lasts for months. Different psilocybin studies have shown how magic mushrooms such as Psilocybe caerulescens can contribute to a person’s long-term mental health with a single dose. In some instances, magic shrooms can also help curb addiction, depressive thinking, and improve work performance.

Psilocybe Caerulescens Cultivation
Growing your own Psilocybe caerulescens is cheap and easy. The key is to be prepared and to know what you’re doing ahead of time.

This magic shrooms cultivation method, or tek, uses ½ pint off canning jars or drinking glasses, a substrate of vermiculite, brown rice flour, water, and Psilocybe caerulescens spores.

By growing Psilocybe caerulescens indoors, you will be able to create and control conditions for the mushrooms to grow. You will also minimize risk of contamination.

Always remember to wash your hands with antibacterial soap before and after working. Keep the place where you do the inoculation dry, and free from dust. Dirty hands and a dirty environment will attract unwanted microorganisms which can destroy your cultivation project.

For this method, you will need the following materials:

Vermiculite – Vermiculite is made from the naturally-occurring mineral, mica. It’s available in different grades but for Psilocybe caerulescens cultivation, the middle grade is the most suitable.
Brown Rice Flour (BRF) – This is available in health food shops. It’s best to keep it cool and dry because it can easily turn rancid due to its husk content.
Water – It’s not enough to simply use tap water. When preparing the substrate, remember to use “drinking quality water.”
Spore Syringe – You can purchase 10cc-12cc suspension of mushrooms spores from the internet. The color of the suspension will vary based on the amount of spores in the solution but it’s usually translucent to slightly violet.
Jars – The jars should have 240mL capacities. The only required is they shouldn’t have narrow necks so you can easily slide the cake out of it once its’ colonized. Bigger jars take longer to fully colonize.
You will need the following for substrate preparation for every 240mL jar:

140mL vermiculite
40mL brown rice flour
Water
20mL vermiculite
Procedure:

Put the required amount of vermiculite for all the jars in a bowl. Pour water slowly while stirring with a spoon. Make sure you don’t overwater the vermiculite and you’re only putting in as much water as it can absorb.
Place the required amount of BRF into the wet vermiculite and mix it in with the spoon. The goal is to uniformly coat the wet vermiculite with a layer of BRF.
Fill the mixture in jars up to ½ inch beneath the brim. Keep it airy and loose to provide optimum conditions for the mycelium to grow.
Fill up the jar with vermiculite to the top to hinder airborne contaminants from reaching the underlying substrate.
Take a 12cm wide strip of aluminum foil, and fold it in the middle. Put the foil over the opening of the jar. If you’re using jars with lids, poke 4 holes at the very edge of each lid with a small nail and hammer and screw the lid on. The holes should be slightly bigger than the diameter of the syringe needle.
Take a piece of foil measuring 5×5 inches and put it over the first two layers leaving the edges of the foil reaching down since it has to be lifted again during the inoculation. So now you have 3 layers of foil over the opening. The top layer can be lifted during the inoculation.
Sterilize the big jar using a pressure cooker. Steam the jars for 45 minutes in a pot with the lid on. Use approximately 2 inches of water at the bottom.
Take the jars out and let them coo
Procedure for Psilocybe caerulescens inoculation procedures:

Shake the spore syringe to break up clumps.
Heat the needle from the spore syringe over a flame until it glows red. Let it cool for a few seconds.
Pierce the foil at the edge of the jar with the needle approximately 3cm deep and inject the spore suspension towards the inner jar surface.
Inoculate each jar on the 4 equally-spaced points.
Each jar should have 1-1.5mL of the spore suspension so a 10mL syringe will suffice for 6-10 jars.
After inoculating all the jars, cover them with the aluminum foil lid once more.
Incubation:

Store the jars in a room whose temperature doesn’t exceed 27°C.
The first signs of germination should appear after 3-5 days. These will appear as bright white specks. Anything that grows that isn’t white should be discarded. Specks of other colors mean the jars are contaminated.
Check your jars every day. After 2-4 weeks, the mycelium should have colonized the whole jar.
Once the jars are fully colonized, store them at room temperature to start pinning.
Pinning:

Don’t expose the jars to direct sunlight.
In 10 days, pinhead-size fruiting bodies should form. These are the precursors of the mushrooms.
Growing Psilocybe caerulescens:

Choose a container that can be loosely sealed and has at least one translucent side, preferably on top.
Put ½ inch of moistened perlite or wet paper towels at the bottom of the container.
Transfer the contents of the colonized jars into the containers by holding the jar upside down.
If you have a bigger fruiting container, you can put in more than one cake to start fruiting.
Put a sheet of plastic over the opening of the fruiting container
Take off this sheet once a day and fan the air out.
Spray the growing cakes with some water to keep it moist since this layer provides moisture for the air to stay humid.
Over the next 7-14 days, the mushrooms will start to grow.
Harvest the Psilocybe caerulescens as soon as the caps begin to open.
